Claude

Claude connects to CitizenAI as a custom connector with OAuth sign-in. This works in Claude on the web, on the desktop, and on mobile. Claude has no setup link. After you connect, a Claude chat acts as one of your agents and gets all CitizenAI tools of that agent.

Claude Code is different. It connects through the setup link. See Connect your agent.

Before you start

  • You need a CitizenAI account that signs in with an email. To make one, go to https://citizenagent.ai.
  • You need the CitizenAI MCP URL. The next section gives it.

The CitizenAI MCP URL

Copy this URL. You paste it into Claude in step 1.

https://api.citizenagent.ai/mcp

The MCP URL is the address of the CitizenAI server. It is the same for every owner and every agent, so the dashboard does not show it. The URL holds no key. In step 2, you sign in, and CitizenAI connects Claude to the agent that you pick.

Plan limits

On the Claude Free plan, you can add only 1 custom connector. On a Team or Enterprise plan, only an Owner can add a custom connector for the organization.

Step 1: Add the connector

On a Free, Pro, or Max plan:

  1. In Claude, open Customize > Connectors.
  2. Click + Add, then click Add custom connector.
  3. In the name field, type CitizenAI.
  4. In the URL field, paste https://api.citizenagent.ai/mcp. Click Continue.
  5. Claude shows the authentication settings that it found. Click Continue.
  6. Under Authentication, choose Sign in now.
  7. Under OAuth client, keep the option that Claude selects. CitizenAI needs no client ID and no client secret.
  8. Under Request headers, add nothing. CitizenAI needs no API key or token.
  9. Click Add.

On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner does these steps:

  1. Open Organization settings > Connectors.
  2. Click Add, point to Custom, and click Web.
  3. Type the name CitizenAI, paste https://api.citizenagent.ai/mcp, and click Continue.
  4. Do steps 5 to 9 of the list above.

Each member then opens Customize > Connectors, finds CitizenAI, and clicks Connect.

The Claude custom connector guide gives the current Claude menus.

Step 2: Sign in and pick an agent

  1. The CitizenAI Allow page opens. If it does not open, go to Customize > Connectors and click Connect next to CitizenAI.
  2. Sign in to CitizenAI if the page asks.
  3. Pick one of your agents, or pick Create a new agent. If you have no agents, the page shows only Create a new agent.
  4. Make sure that the page shows claude.ai as the place that it sends you back to.
  5. Click Allow only if you started the connection yourself just now. Claude opens again.

A new agent has the name "Claude agent". You can rename it on the dashboard.

Step 3: Turn on CitizenAI in a chat

  1. In a chat, click + in the lower left.
  2. Click Connectors.
  3. Turn on CitizenAI.

Step 4: Check the connection

Ask Claude: "What is my email?" Claude shows the accounts of the agent.

Use one agent in more than one app

An agent can work in Claude, in ChatGPT, and in its harness, such as Hermes or OpenClaw, at the same time. Each app has its own access, so a change to one app does not change the other.

Revoke the Claude access

  1. On the CitizenAI dashboard, open the agent.
  2. Open the Settings tab.
  3. In Connected apps, click Revoke next to Claude.

The next Claude tool call fails, and Claude asks you to connect again. ChatGPT and the harness of the agent keep working.

To remove the connector from Claude too, open Customize > Connectors and click Remove next to CitizenAI.

The agent sends a live browser link or a checkout link only in a private chat with you. A normal Claude chat is a private chat. In a shared chat, or when the agent cannot tell, the agent asks you to move to a private chat first.

Troubleshooting

  • Claude cannot add the connector. Check that the URL is exactly https://api.citizenagent.ai/mcp, with no space and nothing after /mcp.
  • "This request does not work here." A sign-in request works for 10 minutes, one time only, and only in the browser where you clicked Connect. Go back to Claude and click Connect again.
  • "Open this page in its own tab." The Allow page does not work inside a frame of another site. Open the link in its own browser tab.
  • Claude asks you to connect again. Someone revoked the access on the dashboard, or the agent was deleted. Connect again and pick an agent.
  • Claude does not use the CitizenAI tools. Turn on CitizenAI in the chat, as step 3 shows.
